How to sign a PDF online for free

With mohar.ink you can send a PDF for signature and get back a sealed copy, at no cost. Only the sender needs an account. The people who sign use a link from their email.

Send a PDF for signature

  1. Create an account

Sign up with Google, Microsoft or your email address. If you choose a password, open the link we email you to confirm your address: you need a confirmed address to send.

  2. Upload your documents

Add one or more PDF, PNG or JPEG files, up to 25 MB each. Images become one-page PDFs. Give the envelope a title.

  3. Add recipients

Enter each person’s name and email address and pick a role: signer, approver, viewer or CC. Choose whether everyone gets the link at once or one after another. For extra checks, add an access code or ask for an email code.

  4. Place the fields

Drag signature, initials, date signed, name, text, checkbox and other fields onto the pages, for each signer. On a phone, tap a field type, then tap the page. Form fields already in your PDF are suggested, and placed only if you accept them.

  5. Review and send

Check the documents and recipients, add a message, and set an expiry date or reminders if you want them. Select Send envelope. The documents and fields are locked from then on.

Sign a document you were sent

  1. Open the email link

The email from mohar.ink has a personal link. It opens the document in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You do not need an account.

  2. Confirm it is you, if asked

If the sender set an access code, enter the code they gave you. If they asked for an email code, we send a 6-digit code to your address; it works for 10 minutes.

  3. Agree to sign electronically

When it is shown, read the electronic records disclosure and agree to it. It explains how electronic records and signatures work, including your right to a paper copy.

  4. Fill in your fields

Use the Next button to move through the fields that are yours. Your answers save as you go. The date signed is filled in for you when you finish.

  5. Adopt your signature

The first signature or initials field asks for your signature and your initials together: draw them, type them and pick a style, or upload a picture of your signature. After that, tap each signature or initials field to place them.

  6. Finish

When every required field is filled in, select Finish signing. If you do not want to sign, you can decline instead and tell the sender why.

What everyone gets back

  • When the last person finishes, the sender and every recipient get an email with the sealed PDF and the certificate of completion attached.
  • The sealed PDF has every field flattened into the page and a digital seal with a trusted timestamp. If the file is changed afterwards, the seal no longer checks out.
  • The certificate of completion lists every recipient and every event, with the document ID and a link to the verify page.
  • The sender can also follow the envelope in their account, see its audit trail, and download the documents there.

To check a sealed PDF later, see How to verify a signed PDF.
